Centring Mount for GoPro Hero
Overview:
The centring mount is designed to align the mounting prongs with the optical centre. A common issue with action and compact cameras is that their mounting points are often offset from the lens. If, like me, you prefer to capture footage with symmetry, this typically requires an assortment of mounting arms arranged in a zig-zag pattern. But no more! This mount solves that by offsetting the GoPro Hero 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13 to align the prongs directly with the lens.
Design:
There were several challenges in getting this right, not least of which was determining the correct offset. Once that was measured and accounted for, the next step was designing the mount to be as compact as possible while maintaining stiffness. The moment force applied to the prongs at the end of the moment like a lever can increase the likelihood of resonance and wobbling. To eliminate this, the mount tapers outward, increasing the geometry and overall stiffness.
