Exposure Lights M5 Bolt Mount
The M5 mounts offer greater versatility for your Exposure lights by utilising common M5 threaded points found on many bike frames. These include forks, seatstay, and most rack mounts—ideal locations for securely positioning lights for easy access.
In the images, you can see how I've mounted lights on the seat-stays of my commuter bike (Jaggers). This setup not only keeps them out of the way but also allows for quick, one-handed removal when needed.
Design:
The design brief was simple, but we didn’t settle for the simplest solution. Like our other C-style clips, these mounts are ovalized and intentionally undersized to maintain a secure grip with minimal deformation.
Each mount holds the light at a 45-degree angle to the bike’s vertical motion, reducing the chance of it being dislodged—even on rough terrain. We’ve tested them on mountain bikes without any issues. And don't see the need for rubber bands.
Using washers between the mount and the fixture allows the clip to be torqued down to 4-5Nm without deforming the plastic. Since the mount is secured at a single point, there's a possibility that repeated twisting forces could cause it to loosen over time. However, the washer helps mitigate this by allowing a firm 3-4Nm clamp without distortion, reducing the likelihood of movement. While this is a minor design compromise, it's an easy fix.
They come in two versions: a flat mount for a clean, low-profile setup, and a 5mm offset version. Exactly as described, (see the illustration).
After the first production run, I realised I needed a spacer for my randoneur rack, too clear the struts, easily done but thought why not build that offset in—so we designed the offset model to accommodate that.
